I may be biased, but I believe we offer one of the most unique, rewarding opportunities for nurses in our area.
As the only hospital of our kind in Missouri and one of only a handful in the country, we care for kids and their families with the most complex conditions, illnesses and injuries, bridging the gap between hospital and home.
Connecting and playing with patients
One of the best parts of being a nurse at Ranken Jordan is how we get to develop relationships with patients and their families.
The average length of stay at an acute care hospital is five days. A nurse may get close to a patient over a few days but never learn what happens to the patient as he or she may be discharged on a day off.
The average length of stay at Ranken Jordan is 45-60 days so our nurses have time to develop special, fulfilling relationships with patients. They get to celebrate milestones with them and see how their work is making a difference.
What sets Ranken Jordan apart
In addition to building relationships with patients, nurses also love working at Ranken Jordan because of our Care Beyond the Bedside model, which focuses on getting kids out of their hospital beds and using the power of play for healing.
Our clinical staff is encouraged to take kids out of their hospital rooms–a popular nursing duty is taking a kid outside to the playground!
Another factor that makes us stand out is our nonprofit status and the fact that we are not part of a larger hospital organization. This allows us to be nimble and innovate, like how we tested a new model for private duty nursing.
We are also able to keep our nurse-to-patient ratios low. We aim to help nurses clock out on time, get their meal breaks and have time to visit with patients.
Building a career at Ranken Jordan
Because of our unique care model and patient population, Ranken Jordan is also a place for nurses to grow and learn, whether it’s their first job out of nursing school or they’ve been in nursing for decades.
Nurses practice a variety of skills like getting patients up and out of bed as well as playing with them and finding ways to connect with patients.
We are also dedicated to helping nurses advance in their careers. For nurses at every level, we offer a Clinical Ladder program to support professional growth and help nurses earn up to $4 more per hour. Additional benefits include education assistance and loan forgiveness, day-one health insurance, and paid maternity and paternity leave.
